In 2013 Horses For Healing began providing evidence-based equine therapy for veterans, active duty and National Guard personnel.
In 2018, Horses For Healing added several holistic services for our military clients. Veterans and active duty alike are invited to participate in Ashva yoga (mat + horseback work), restorative yoga, mindfulness, trauma release therapy, acupuncture, and acudetox as part of their therapy experience. Each of these services are offered as an individualized service in either the barn setting or yoga studio.
Horses For Healing, Inc. provides its equine therapy services, complementary services to veterans regardless of whether they have insurance. Services for those with no insurance is covered by funding provided by the State of New Mexico Veteran and Family Support Services and Behavioral Health Services Division. Over 60 veterans and families are served annually under State funding.
Active Duty &
Active duty military can access our programming through Military OneSource, insurance, private pay, or scholarship.
Services are not time-limited unless limited by insurance plan.
Military equine therapy is provided by licensed clinical staff who are trained by the Department of Defense, Center for Deployment Psychology in the provision of Cognitive Processing Therapy for Military and also by the Purdue University Military Family Research Institute.
We use the horses as therapy partners with our military clients to reduce PTSD, depression, anxiety and other trauma-based issues.
We were honored by the State of New Mexico Behavioral Health Services Department, Family Services Division with an "Outstanding Mental Health Agency" award.
